True enough. I wonder what their useful life is without preventive maintenance? Does rust improve them?! <g>

I think they still have a few Korean war era tanks (T-55s) in their reserve forces. Before the post war cut they may have even had a handful of WWII era tanks (T-34s). The readiness of these low priority reserve units is to say the least very low. And trying to deploy these on a modern battlefield would be very costly to the deployers. Their active forces have much newer tanks but many of them are very old and probably quite a few are poorly maintained.

I remember a story about how a tank crew traded their tank for a truckload of vodka. I don't think that the army looked to kindly on that, and I imagine the vodka owner might have been upset when "his" tank was taken away.

What Japan doesn't have is large stocks of weapons and supplies for their aircraft and ships"

I am sure that is by agreement and design and will not be a problem. An old enemy is now a great friend...

It was by design. The idea was to make sure Japan wasn't a threat like they where in WWII.

If you ever had a major future war involving Japan we would likely be their allies, and support and resupply them. Also I don't see a military attack against Japan as being at all likely any time in the next few decades.
