RCG, I appreciate your thoughts. Before you make up your mind, though, try visiting a nursing home, a nice one. Go often enough that the folks living there get familiar with you, and talk to the ones that are able to talk rationally. You'll see what I mean.

Yes, folks our age can have up and down cycles. But people in their late 70s and 80s know that things will not get better for them. They know it's the end of the line, and they don't enjoy their lives, and have nothing to look forward to, except maybe meatloaf on Tuesday.

Or, try talking to a hospice social worker. They hear it every day.
