What I have always found the most curious about this whole issue is that there's a segment of the population that is so consumed with resentment over what they perceive as being looked down upon that they would reject the notion that the president should be smarter than we are.

In addition to what we saw on that topic, we have the recent evidence that some people believe that falsehoods in political debate are perfectly acceptable if they feed their own biases. When you start to add up the failings people will accept to have their partisan agenda fed, it is startling. A dumb, backslapping liar with the right slogans has a good chance in most elections, it seems like.

That's why Joe Biden will never get nominated, much less elected. He is a fascinating personality to watch but he has no clue how to connect with voters on those visceral levels.
