A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred about 10 a.m. central time Sunday in the Gulf of Mexico about 250 miles west-southwest of Apalachicola, Fla., according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Website. The St. Petersburg Times, however, quoted a survey spokesman as saying the earthquake was not strong enough to produce dangerous waves. The earthquake was felt in parts of Florida, Georgia and Alabama, according to the USGS. news.galvestondailynews.com
