I'll just quickly note that your graph places France in the exact center and covering all of the center. Nothing can claim to be centrist unless it extensively overlaps with France. All in all a rather questionable assumption both in terms of France being centrist and in terms of France being further from totalitarian than the US.

The placement of France near the center is not surprising at all. Traditionally, that's where most political scientists put France. After all, France is a capitalist country much like the US. This is all news to you guys because you have convinced yourselves that you are near the center. In fact, you guys are over to the right and that's causing the US to drift right.

If truth be told, most US politicians place right of center....right along with Chirac of France. That would include guys like Kerry whom you all think is so very left. Like with most other things, Republicans are trying to rewrite the rules of the political spectrum that have been followed for decades. I don't think its working.
