Pyng Medical Corp.: San Francisco Fire EMS Selects F.A.S.T.1'TM'
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Sep 11, 2006 (CCNMatthews via COMTEX News Network) -- The City of San Francisco Fire Department Emergency Medical Services system has selected the F.A.S.T.1(TM) from Pyng Medical Corp. (TSX VENTURE:PYT) for adult intraosseous intervention. Working with EMS Training Section Chief Philip R. Harvey and EMS Training Captain Jeff Myers, Dr. Richard Clinchy, EMT-P, Pyng's Director of Business Development, assisted in the initial training classes for San Francisco FD paramedics this week, Sept. 3 2006.
Serving an immense geographical area and over 1,000,000 people, San Francisco Fire Department responds to over 95,000 alarms annually of which over 70,000 are emergency medical services alarms. The Department transports about 44,000 patients per year. Of these patients an estimated 600+ are cardiac arrests and, based on the recent changes in advanced cardiac life support and the use of adult intraosseous devices in that setting, these cardiac arrest patients will be the initial primary targets for use of the F.A.S.T.1(TM). As experience is gained with the F.A.S.T.1(TM), SFFD EMS leaders hope to expand the use of the F.A.S.T.1(TM) in other appropriate medical emergencies.
Initial F.A.S.T.1(TM) units have been ordered and will be deployed on the department's 67 ambulances and fire trucks. Initial use is anticipated to be as high as 500+ units annually.
The Department will submit patient data after each F.A.S.T.1(TM) use to the ongoing adult intraosseous registry that is being managed by Dr. Clinchy. This registry is already producing evidence as to the effectiveness of the F.A.S.T.1(TM).
