Not according to BYTE testing that equates the speed of a 117mhz 603e to a 200mhz
Pentium. "
------

...as fast as a 200mhz with a crippled bus! The 117mhz Powerbooks (and the upgraded 180mhz versions -- 5300?) are dogs. Yes, they can be very fast -- IF your application suite consists of running the Byte benchmark. However, if you want to run any other apps (Word, Excel, Photoshop), count on 6100/66 performance.

The big Mac magazines (MacWorld/User) crucified the 5300's when they came out. They are a bad design, period. The newer models (3400, 2300) are much, much better. For example, the 180mhz 3400 is 3x faster than the 117mhz 5300.

The high priced models are worth every penny, but the low priced models (the 5300) just do not ofter a good price:performance ratio. I would love a Powerbook, but the 3400 is too expensive, and the 5300 is too dog slow.
