Ummm yes, I understand stats, and yes I am getting it. you haven't done your homework, pure and simple.

in the hi responder subgroup you have ++ in the treated, -- in the control.

that does not mean the 'excluded' group had to have treated who were net -- and control who were ++; it can mean the exclude group had net 00 in the treated AND control. no significance. i.e adding less significant groups with 00 results dilutes the overall significance.

you should actually study the data and the trial design before making silly assumptions. the data could mean what you say if it were data mining, and that would be more likely in subgroups that were not pre-determined in a study designed by some of the best cardiologist investigators in the world and the fda. but if you actually studied the trial data and design, you'd see your grassy knoll potshots are.. ahem, just that.

you might be amazed at how helpful actually doing homework is.
