He said that Islam enabled him to do so much more for his God - he was able to wage war FOR his God. That cuts right through most of the rhetoric. It certainly does at that.. When I was younger, we had some Aryan Nations folks that were holding rallies in our town. They really considered their white supremist ideology to actually be a religion. And their whole goal was to either kick out (or kill) the blacks, the Jews, and anyone who wasn't lily white. Claiming the status of religion was their means of insuring they wouldn't be abolished by the Feds, but from what I was able to glean from the material I obtained while speaking with some of them, there really did approach their racist beliefs from a religious angle. And they advocated something pretty similar to the Jihadists.. Religious government, death to anyone who opposed them, and a return to religious and racial purity. Fortunately, being a religion didn't prevent them from being sued into bankruptcy by private citizens. But they are still out there.. What I find particularly ironic is that this bunch of neo-nazis actually vocally support Hibzbullah and Al Qai'da. And since we know that Hizbullah uses the same kind of salute, we have to ask which "conspiracy" is really at play here..
