I find everything the Iranian Pres says about Israel to be suspect. He has said they do not have a right to exist. That colors EVERYTHING he says about them. Every single thing. You can place it under "scholarly" work. I call it a crock.
As far as the Iranian news papers research, I also wrote, which you conveniently left out, that in that country, disagreeing with their Pres can get you beheaded. So, if the Holocaust does not exist in the mind of their Pres, then you are dang right the papers will have the same "findings."
Do I believe the Holocaust happened? Absolutely. Do I believe 6 million people were killed with the large majority being Jews? It doesn't matter to me. The fact that it happened is a big enough scar on history and the people of that time who allowed it to happen. Would it be different if it was 500,000 instead of 6 million? I don't know how I feel about that.
There doesn't seem to be the same concern about how many Russians died, a figure near 20 or 30 million. Why is that? I suggest it relates to the manner in which they, the Jews, were housed, treated, and then systematically eliminated. Concentration camps, experiments on humans and all the other atrocities perpetrated in the camps is why the Holocaust is so horrific. It's why it should be remembered.
Sounds to me like you are trying to soften the figures to make it less of an impact, yet the things that went on in the camps will never lose their shock value. So your hero in the Iranian Pres, may be doing something you think is courageous, I think it's a cheap shot and he's being supported by yes men in the newspapers. |
