If we had fought with Mexico and Canada for 1,000 years than I'd imagine that the super power would eventually want to step in.

Of course the US supplied Israel with training and weapons. When a country is surrounded by enemies that attack and threaten that country on a daily basis, someone needs to help them protect themselves. I hate that we are the world's police, but that's one responsibility that a superpower is stuck with.
