I predict Chevron renegotiates their lease in the deep Gulf, in exchange for clamping down on Bush's mad scheme to demand Chevron sells their offshore leases in the West Coast back to the US government.

For Chevron, dealing with the Bush administration has been like dealing with the corrupt tribal chieftain in Third World Ooga-Boogaland. Signed contracts don't mean much to a corrupt tribal chief like George W. Bush.

Chevron can easily afford to give up a billion on the new discovery, but they can't afford to deal with a situation where laws are not observed and enforced.
