Its hardly impossible for an educated lay person to have some understanding of the situation. That cave system wasn't going to be simply and quickly cut off whatever was denied or supplied. I'm not saying that more troops were not requested, or that more troops should not have been supplied, but the whole "Bush let OBL go free" argument relies on a series of questionable assumptions.
