I have to disagree that the deception and corruption of Indonesian officials and miners related to Bre-X is reaping it's reward through massive jungle fires.

Unless you mean that they are burning the forest intentionally to better confuse outsiders as to the exact location of the Busang gold. It is hard enough to find your way through a jungle and if you change the terrain it becomes even more difficult. Especially if you are a foreigner.
(Lived in Panama for 5 years.)

Indonesia is going to get rich off their own gold and Bre-X was/is the victim of corruption IMHO. The glitter blinded them so much they could not see the contracts they had signed with Bre-X. They are probably now burning them in the fires.
