Re: The question is why Dell continues adding AMD to their products even after Conroe is out and is beating Athlon in every single review.

The answer is that there are plenty of consumers out there who are AMD brand loyalists. Part of the reason for such loyalty is the notion of "break free" that AMD milks for all its PR worth. In other words, it really is the fear that Intel will become the next Microsoft.

What happened to the Intel loyalists? Is Intel's advertising budget not large enough? Not enough Blue Men, aliens, Dell commercials or Intel jingles on TV? Hasn't Intel built up a lot of good will over the past couple years by producing overpriced, power hungry, underperforming desktop CPUs?

Or did Intel drop the ball by producing desktop CPUs of questionable value the past couple years while AMD "earned" their loyalists by producing high performance, relatively energy efficient CPUs?

Where is the Conroe derivative that competes with a $45 (retail) Sempron? What about the Conroe that competes with a $75 (retail) Athlon 64 3200+? Will Intel sell the Conroe E6300 to Dell for $50 to push AMD out of the low-end market? Can Dell build E6300 systems for less than A64 X2 3800+ and 4200+ systems? I believe AMD is competing primarily with Pentium and Celeron now on the desktop, rather than Conroe, and are doing so on price and value.
