"It's a trick question. Once you can explain it it's no longer magic.

So you're saying it no longer qualifies as magic if the 'trick' loses it's mystery.

That's why my explanation included the qualification of 'tricks' that the audience can't detect and mystery that defies discovery (unseen forces) but can be defined. I think I won the bet but I can see the loopholyness of the whole deal.
