Are a Great Dane and an e. coli the same "form of life"?

Yes. They are made of the same building blocks - protein molecules, constructed from aminoacids in accordance withh the way they are encoded in their (usually) DNA. Carbon based stuff. The "card analogy" presupposes that there may be forms of life which would be totally different... I don'know... Magnesium based? But the point is that if other - alternative - life producing "shuffles" would be at all possible, they would have happened - and none of that is in evidence.
