GEMS is still caught it the downdraft from MOT's preannouncement. Too bad GEMS doesn't announce a nice fat contract like MOT did today.

** SPRINT CORP. (FON: 47-3/4, + 1/4) is expected to award about
$700 mln in contracts for digital wireless telephone equipment to
MOTOROLA INC. (MOT: 69-5/8, + 3/8) and NORTHERN TELECOM LTD. (NT:
104-7/16, + 7/16), the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people
close to the matter. The paper said in its electronic edition
Thursday that both Motorola and Northern Telecom beat out LUCENT
TECHNOLOGIES (LU: 80-15/16, - 5/8), among other companies, for the
contracts. Motorola is expected to take about 60% of the contracts
from Sprint, and Northern Telecom about 40%, the paper said. The
equipment will be used by Sprint PCS -- which is about 40%-owned
by Sprint -- to fill out its national communications network, the
paper added. (Reuters)
