Maverick & all: Re: carrier class ATM switching...

I have heard that ASND recently won a major frame relay deal with NTT. I have also heard that Cascade won't have a competitive carrier class multiprotocol ATM switch ready until sometime around Q2/98 (apparently the current offering is mainly used for the backbone of frame relay networks? Correct me if I'm wrong please).

In the press release, both the B-STDX 9000 frame relay switch and the CBX 500 ATM switch are described as "multiservice". I assume that "multiservice" is very subjective term in light of teh above...

My question is: Can ASND reasonably expect to successfully bid for a carrier class all-ATM backbone contract similar to the BT, MCI, etc wins that NN has recently announced? Can ASND's ATM switches be expected to run a major carrier central office backbone integrating both voice and data?

Thanks for any help here...

Andrew
