"At the turn of the century, the US was teetering on a depression."

This is nonsense. Bush inherited one of the mildest recessions in history, one SO mild, historians debate if it actually qualifies for the description. 9/11 casued some economic pain, which could have been dealt with without a war in Iraq.

The '90's showed how the economy could perform in a time of peace, and it was GREAT, which should be impossible, since the taxes under Clinton were so "high". Bush's wars, sabre-rattling and destabilizing foreign policy might stimulate the military sector of the economy, but that isn't made up for the high energy costs and nervousness it causes the REST of the economy, which is far larger. That war stimulates an economy is a myth.
