I think there's a world of difference between saying "you need to believe this because God said it" and saying, oh, let's see, "Catholics believe that the Pope is infallible when speaking on matters of doctrine ex cathedra, but other Christians deny that the Pope has any such authority. Fundamentalist Protestants, on the other hand, believe that the Bible is literally true, and that one only needs to read and believe it literally in order to be saved."
I mentioned the Book of Job to Jeff because he brought up Genesis. They're both in the Old Testament, to be consistent, if one is literally true, then the other should be, too.
If you're not capable of discussing such matters as abstractions, I would suggest that this is your own personal limitation, not one that everybody shares.
