From what I understand, the WTC was a unique "lightweight" design with some corners cut (during construction) that made it especially vulnerable to the very type of progressive, escalating collapse that occurred after the fire(s). More conventional high rise buildings have much heavier structural steel on the interior, and would be less likely to collapse like the WTC did.
