"W is looking for coverage for transgressions committed BEFORE the SCOTUS rendered its judgment. Without it, and with the Dems projected to take the house, he's got a real problem on his hands."

Do you think the Dems will go after him for war crimes? I don't see that as very likely. It's more likely that the terrorists he's been keeping in secret prisons without any representation will be allowed to tell the world exactly what "extreme interrogation techniques", i.e. torture, were used on them. This would reveal yet MORE lies from Bush, since he claims he doesn't torture.

The whole thing is stupid. We should have laws that forbid torture, as we always have had, and simply get some willing Liddy-type to break them when necessary. Presidents have been doing this forever. All they have to do is tell a Liddy-type they need all the information, and let them do the rest. No explicit orders needed, and deniability is maintained. If necessary, the Liddy-type goes to prison and justice is served.

Bush is such a moron, he wants explicit POWERS to torture. The subtlety of using a Liddy-type is beyond his capabilities, despite having a wealth of them among the neocons all around him.
