From what I understand Kilborn is on high alert to make sure they don't screw up. They claim to be innocent in the Bre-x disaster and, without knowing the full details about their reponsibilities, I tend to believe that its possible.

Kilborn's terms of reference in its contract with Bre-x could have been very narrow and restricted. This is quite common in engineering consulting. If you are paid to make estimates from someone else's numbers, that is exactly what you do, nothing more, nothing less.

The view that they have screwed up may just be a matter of perception and lack of understanding of roles and responsibilities. If I design a support bracket for an engine that runs on water, is it my fault if the engine doesn't run?

Take care,
