Yes, I agree, every manjor industry has companies gobbling up their competitors, but rarely is that a good move. It's often much cheaper to either out-compete them or expand by out-innovating them. Everyone wonders why Cisco's acquisitions are so successful. Just take a look at how they do it. They don't go out and buy competitors. They eat their competitor's lunch. Conversely, Cisco's competitors buy each other in these huge buyouts and mergers like Alcatel and Lucent, then they fail.
