My uncle is in town. He spent 15 years as the head of one of the world's largest engineering and architectural firms. He's lived in San Fran and NY City his entire life and is extremely liberal. His firm includes a host of structural engineers and they've designed sky scrapers from San Fran to Hong Kong.

I asked him if he'd heard of the 9/11 conspiracy theories (knowing that he has great disdain for Bush).

His answer was yes, but that they are utterly ridiculous. One of his senior structural engineers did some research into the collapses and came away convinced that the buildings collapsed under their own weight after several floors gave way (joists on a couple of floors fell and the core columns became unsupported and buckled).

I ran by him the "not enough energy to crush concrete" and the "they fell almost as fast as gravity" issues and he just scoffed at them. When I mentioned "no airplane parts found at the pentagon" and "the planes were actually a hologram" he just laughed and asked what these theorists were smoking.

He's VERY liberal, would love to see Bush out of the white house, etc. BUT, he's a trained engineer that's practiced for decades, a lot of the time at the top of a firm that designs highrises. He says the conspiracy theories are totally bogus.

FWIW, which is quite a lot IMO.
