The sad truth is at this point there is likelihood of civil war and further chaos in Iraq. Any exit strategy will have to face that hard fact. The republicans are equally without a strategy. "Stay the course" has not thus far been successful, and there is no indication that anything has changed to make it a successful course.

Whatever is done it is going to be ugly.

This is Bush's legacy.
