OT - I am not for a moment suggesting that the extremists be coddled. I think the Netherlands government in particular has been scandalously lax in dealing with the extremism in its midst, and I have been waiting for some signs that it and other governments in Europe begin to deal with the problem. But I don't think Benedict's choice of words is likely to make progress in defining what Western societies should accept as acceptable behavior in their Muslim populations. This is what he quoted: Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached".
