I'm on the email list for the Tesla car. This is exactly what all American car manufacturers should be spending all their R&D on...a fully electric car that can go 300-400 miles per charge. If they had a 4 door version that's a little bigger, I'd buy one. Also, of course, they need to get the price down to $30K or less to attract the masses. But the very fact that they've been able to get this car out the door shows that we're on our way and that once again Silicon Valley is leading where other industries fail to deliver. Maybe car production will no start to move from Detroit to San Jose. :)
