US primary aluminium production drops 10.8% in Aug on year

The U.S. annual rate of primary aluminium production totaled 2,184,113 metric tons in August, down 10.8% from the August 2005 total of 2,449,915 metric tons, the Aluminium Association reported.
The annual rate of production in August decreased 3.3% from July's total of 2,257,584 metric tons.
Year to date, the annual rate of production totaled 2,290,689 metric tons, off 8.2% from the 2005 total of 2,496,594 metric tons.
Actual production for the month of August 2006 totaled 185,500 metric tons.
Participating companies, which include Alcan Inc. (AL), Alcoa Inc. (AA), Century Aluminium Co. (CENX), Columbia Falls Aluminium Co., and Noranda Aluminium Co., account for 100% of U.S. primary aluminium production.
