I had a 2 hour conversation with 87yo dad on Saturday..
Mike, I've been thinking alot during this past year of my dad passing to the other side(he and I are soul companions), we're so friggen close..I feel the strongest need to prepare as he's preparing...he's got the funeral arrangements, the will, his medical directives done..
Although not planned, I've had the really good fortune of spending time with folk in the 70-90+ age group in recent years..Jeff's grandma is 96...imo, indeed they are the greatest generation as Tom Brokaw described them in his book..I've been thinking alot about what will our world be like when this generation dies off..it saddens me and scares me at the same time..My generation and yours(I'm 44), are so friggin self-centered..even those of us who have had difficult beginnings by comparison, does not compare to what my dad's generation as a whole, had to go thru..they have such great resolve and integrity without the fanfare of 'look what a good person I am,' mentality..
Perhaps I'll finally really grow up??? Ok, you said it was OK to ramble here..and I'm excercising this need!...
