"You think that's why members on this thread don't engage me? Interesting. Are they afraid their ideology might get tainted?"

I know they are not. From the other responses, it appears that you have the real reasons. They are fairly certain that you will not allow your ideology to get tainted. You have aptly proven yourself to be an ideological leftist who is unwilling to consider anything that would reduce your commitment to the far left ideology. When you read the words it is with the attitude of the dialog of the deaf, looking for a way to refute it and never considering the value.

"I am on the side of what America once stood for"

That is the problem, it stood for the values that conservatives embody for most of its history, and only once for a brief moment stood for the values you yearn for. It is a society of responsibility where the best are theoretically allowed to rise to the top and not held back by organizations like unions.

"America I know would not have stood down and allowed a small fledgling democracy like Lebanon get trashed by a bully like " Hezbollah.

It was Syria that allowed that, or actually promoted it.
