I'm less optimistic. Muslim countries, for the most part, won't allow Westerners visit or mingle with their populations. Any integration seems to be forced upon the Western countries, and France, for example, isn't overly pleased with that integration experiment thus for. I personally don't learn a lot about the mideast from video of a bunch of angry people burning my flag and carrying signs saying they want to kill me. Similarly, I doubt they learn much about me from al Jazera's videos and news stories about Western atrocities (whether true or not), or mullahs exhorting them to try to kill as many americans as they can, or die trying. I seem to be blind to the middle ground you see so clearly.
