A person who doesn't have a home community is in a pretty sad place IMO, and it is pretty well impossible to live without a culture. The essence of the postmodern and poststructural critiques I referred to earlier is that the overarching truth narratives that were the underpinnings of modernism -- e.g. sexism -- had been undercut by modern medium and communication techno;ogy so that people can build their own truths and narratives from what they see around them. The trick is to find a basis to build these truths in a way that allows political praxis, unlike postmodernists like Lyotard that IMO end up disappearing up their own rectums with their continual claims that all signifiers are free-floating. In an attempt to get away from traditional Marxist economic determinism they threw out the baby with the bathwater. Anyway, I have to stop here and do some of what I'm getting paid to do. LC
