Perhaps if they told the court what these "tough" interrogation procedures were, the court could tell them if they were degrading and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

By torturing detainees, perhaps it simply reinforces their impression of the US being an evil monster. As far as I know torture is not always effective in getting actionable intel.

Seems to me that by being humane, it might actually be more effective. Who's to say?
