Actually, I assume that AMD will indeed respond with something that is at least equivalent to Conroe. Maybe better, depending on how much of an advantage on-die memory controllers still represents.

i'd be interested in reading your reasoning on this.

Intel still has 75% of the market. AMD isn't at their long-standing goal of 30% yet, and I don't expect them to get there (or much beyond there) without a big boost to their manufacturing. AMD has had the momentum for quite a while, but I believe that will be effectively neutralized by Intel's Conroe design.

Now you tell me. Who still holds most of the cards in this game? Who still needs to take the bigger risks in order to move forward? Here's a hint: AMD isn't merging with ATI just because they think ATI graphics cards are hip.
