You think things are difficult with the insurgency in Iraq and your right about that. Do you want to have to deal with an insurgency that's a half dozen times larger?

And what kind of cease-fire agreement violation by Saddam was it that justified a full-scale invasion

Any kind of cease fire violation justifies that the firing no longer cease.

He should not have made an alliance with Pakistan's dictator for two reasons.

It would have made it rather hard to invade Afghanistan, and it would have made it even easier for the Taliban and Al Qaeda to move back and forth and to operate from Pakistan. Also the top Al Qaeda leaders that where captured or killed in Pakistan would still be operating against us without the alliance.

There really wasn't much choice but to have at least some minimal level of alliance with Mursharraf, so we did indeed form a sort of minimal alliance.

Also, if you never stated that Iraq was closely tied to Al Qaeda, you have lost the second of the two reasons that were used to brainwash Americans as to why the invasion was justified (after WMDs).

WMDs were still a good reason, just a much less important one. Saddam apparently had plans to restore the WMD program as soon as he was in the clear from sanctions and from any threat of imminent invasion. The situation apparently wasn't time critical in the way that Bush presented it as being, but it doesn't mean it was of zero concern.

As for Al Qaeda - Its never been shown that Iraq had significant ties to Al Qaeda, but its clear that Iraq was connected to and supported terrorism.
