Duh! Go look at the inspectors' updates during those days. They were making report after report about finding a lot of junk here and there, and at various "suspect" sites in Iraq.

Which doesn't mean that anything would have been resolved in months. Iraq is a decently large country. Absent real cooperation from Saddam its to easy to hide chemical weapons production equipment. It can look just like (and in fact also be used as) pesticide production equipment.

A few months after the Iraq invasion we were still looking, and we had a lot more people in Iraq to look.
