I just did not understand the reference to fleas -- I am deeply concerned that the values of the "center" have been completely lost in the public discourse over most issues -- not the least of which is basic respect for human rights.

I don't most people support military targeting of civilians. I don't think most people support torture. I don't think most people support whisking people away to secret prison where they have no legal rights -- and this is all the more a matter of concern as more and more of those who have been secretly detained have turned out to be 100% innocent people. I don't think most people support secret military trials where the accused is not even permitted to know what evidence is being presented against them. Yet all of these things are now in the mainstream of American policy. I think we should want to know what happened to the view from the center.

You want the view from the center, then here it is: People are sick and tired of have the extremists in America define the national agenda. When you have a poster refer to the murder of women and children as akin to getting rid of a flea problem -- then you no longer have a discussion board that reflects the view from the center at all.
