Downy Woodpecker... that's the guy. Gosh, my description was even better than I thought. There were about 3 or 4 of them in the cottonwood tree behind my house yesterday. Busy little guys with their peck, peck, peck then jump to another spot and more pecking. Wonder why they do that, but I'll bet you know, huh? We've had lots of them this summer. That second bird you had pics of was an ugly dude. Glad we don't have him around here!
