That last pipe was too full. The biggest problem any leader faces today in a war is the press. Imagine trying to persuade the public that fire bombing Dresden was just a fine idea, it just would not happen. In the second world war your enemies were your enemies, not some kind of errant friend you were just trying to correct.

I remember one time an Oriental Doctor tried to examine my Grandmother. She was elderly and had lived through both wars, she also screamed at the top of her lungs get that S O B away from me, someone help me..... They got her another doctor, and we apologised to the nice 3rd Generation Doctor. His family had been interned and he understood the basis of Grandma's fear.

If George had any control of the press, as opposed to Roosevelts complete control of the press things might be different. No bodies on the News in WWII a list in the newspaper of the folks from your town maybe, but no long lists, and an enemy who scared the kids and was absolutely evil make a big difference. Now we are simply making war on a bunch of religious people who seem nutz and are pictured as backward and desperately poor and pitiful, in spite of millions and billions of dollars flooding some of the economies they represent.
