P"resident Bush’s soft approach towards Iran seeking a diplomatic solution has been read as backing down from the hard line of severe economic sanctions.

This comes one day after Iran said it had NO intentions of halting enrichment in order to hold talks. That was up on gold yesterday and down on gold and energy today.

One might conclude that Iran will succeed in their nuclear plans, whatever they are. It indicates the US has a full inventory of war and if anything is to occur it will be Israel’s decision. Israel does not now seem to be the enormous military power they assumed they were, one that would be able to defeat the entire Middle East in less than 5 days. Their engagement with Hizbollah took care of that.

Short term there is a lull, but what does this mean for the longer term geopolitical trend?"
