Would it be a mating call this time of year? Seems late to me. The cottonwood tree behind my house is at least 30+ years old and 2/3 dead. I've been after the HOA to take it down as I've seen heavy winds knock down a dead cottonwood. But, the birds sure do flock to it. The other morning it seemed like that tree and several close to it was a "staging" area for zillions of small, totally black, noisy birds. As if by agreed up signal, they all took flight at once and I never saw them again. Same thing happened about a year ago, as I recall. What do you suppose that was about?
