What happened to the Ukranians was so Stalinesque. A good illustration is in the game "Call of Duty". The segment where you play a Russian starts out with an assault on a Nazi held city. You are crossing a river on a boat. The boats are being shelled and Stukas are strafing and dive bombing. You make it to shore and line up where they are passing out ammunition and rifles. You get a clip of 5 bullets and no rifle. Then the KGB troops push you out to assault the Nazi position, and they shoot you if you have insufficient zeal... There were reports of pro-fascists in the Ukraine. So Stalin ordered the crops be harvested and shipped out. Along with shovels and other farm implements. With winter coming and no food, the problem, if it actually existed, was solved.
