The Afghans fighting to free their country are the ones on our side. The Afghans fighting to enslave the country are on the other side.

Also if the other side does take over than you have a new base for terrorism. I suppose we could still striker training camps from the air but they would probably be set up so as not to be easy targets and in any case frequent attack would mean that we were still waging war in Afghanistan, just not from the ground, and just in a less effective way.
