Hi all,

Bummer of a story here. A little while back I purchased a 250 gig Fantom external USB/Firewire hard drive. The cost was only $100 and I thought, heck that might be nice to have for backup purposes....so I got one and backed up some stuff to it.

At some point, I decided that with all the space my music files were taking up on my hard drive, I would be better served moving them to the Fantom drive, and did so. I also put my ebooks over there.

I soon realized that I needed a backup for my backup, just in case, but on the other hand, it is a new drive, what could go wrong??? So... I never did do anything about that....and there was no backup of the ebooks or music files.

Last night I was taking it home to move some files around and I dropped it. Shit. (that is what I said at the time as well). I was hopeful that nothing happened, but I was not lucky. The drive won't be recognized any longer....I have lost all that stuff. I can re-rip the music, but it will take a great deal of time and effort.

Now that I have decided that I cannot live without an external portable hard drive, my question for the group is which one is the best one. My requirements have shifted slightly due to my recent experience....I require one that could withstand a drop of two feet onto the floor. Certainly someone makes an external hard drive that is durable. Don't they?
