No. But the thing that stuck with me was the destruction of their confidence and their parent's pride in them by the fact that they couldn't get that "management trainee" job they had invested all their time and energy for.

My oldest boy was very immature for his age when he got out of HS, and I told him to work and go to school part time. If he had come out of college at age 22 with a degree he would have gone nowhere with it, and then would have looked very bad on paper by the time he was 26 or so.

He ended up in computers with an insurance company and got an accounting degree while working at age 26. Much better track for him.

I got a comment back about having to take a "bedpan" job if you went into healthcare. That's an LVN position. And the people who end up with it do very well. Direct patient care attracts the "empathy" type of person. A lot of gay men become LVN's or RN's.

There is a lot of money to be made as a "tech" in the health business. Lab, X-ray, etc. You can get off a plane in any city in the country and be working the next day. For excellent money.

In the meantime, our colleges are filled with rows and rows of weary young students who are there, not because they want to be, or are especially suited for academia, but because they have been told that is the only way to go. Pity.
