I think we are skipping a hurdle in the whole debate.

What if I am fighting you over something that I care deeply about, which is the only fight I can imagine. Let's say you are a burglar with weapons hacking at my daughter's door and that your friends are surrounding my house.

I have terms of surrender.

1) You're a dead man unless or until you surrender yourself and all info you have that relates to the threat posed on my house.

2) If you agree to my terms, there is no need for torture. If you don't agree, there is no need for torture.

I don't know what the terms of surrender for our military involve, but it doesn't seem like the people we capture have surrendered. It seems more like they may still have a finger on some deadly influence when they are apprehended, and remain active agents while incarcerated.

I think we need to clarify what is a surrender and what or who remains and active agent of the enemy, followed by extensive policy and procedure regarding categorical classifications. Could you please ask them to work on that for me. Thanks in advance.
