BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Rising trade protectionism poses a challenge to the fast-growing global economy, China central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said.
A statement posted on the People's Bank of China (PBOC) website cited a speech made by Zhou during International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Singapore on Sept 19 and 20.
"The world economy is growing relatively fast but still faces challenges, especially the rise in trade protectionism," Zhou said.
China's traders face a growing array of tariff and other barriers abroad, as overseas markets seek to stem the flood of products from the country.
Zhou called on developed nations to help developing economies, while pledging to accelerate China economic reforms and to further open up the economy.
