Steve:
HP does market an AMD - however, in the low-volume market the CYRX is the better buy. The AMD won't be worth looking at full-scale til the end of the year. I haven't seen any of them in the stores though. Kind of like the NET PC - everyone will be offering one eventually, but CPQ is the only one to date to actually be able to deliver one.
Additionally, there's no volume available from AMD for K6 micro-p's!!! CYRX is made by IBM, and IBM even uses it under its own name. There's plenty to go around, as you know yourself the FIC plant in Austin is frantically trying to increase their own numbers - coz they surely could sell plenty more if they could only build them in time.
Regarding the stock price - well, if all goes well and there is no sudden shakeup of the market would think that covering yourself with puts is a waste of money at this point.
I don't think CPQ will miss the whisper no's. They will come close, slightly better. I don't think that there is reason to be as excited as some others (some must be following the fastest car record).
CPQ is not going to lift off anytime soon. They will continue to grow at 25%+ p.a., and there will be positive surprises, no doubt.
Don't forget though, CPQ is a company dictated by reason, not what sounds good or looks good on paper. There are no alchemist-like people brewing stuff like at DELL. Just sound engineers and accountants doing their work well.
